I heard about Young Roots through my cousin and initially volunteered in the girls’ group in Croydon in 2013, helping them in after-school arts, crafts and music workshops, which was really fun and rewarding. After some time, I became interested in how the charity was run, and so transferred to a trustee and secretary role, which I’ve been doing since 2014.
I really enjoy my work, which involves attending meetings, taking minutes, completing the filings for the charity and helping with general trustee administration. In the past, I’ve been heavily involved in designing and sending newsletters, social media and communications (especially around rebranding), events organisation and refugee week. My background is music, and I have a master’s degree in Ethnomusicology from SOAS, which reflects my passion for learning music from around the world. I love volunteering for Young Roots, and contributing towards a fantastic cause, and the staff and trustees are lovely to work with.
