Advice & Support Hubs for young refugees

Our weekly Advice and Support Hubs, in both Croydon and Brent, launched in 2019. They integrate our established youth and sporting activities with our in-demand one-to-one casework service and access to expert legal and therapeutic support via our partners.

How do our hubs support young refugees?

Our Hub model is based on young people’s request for increased sporting and youth provision, as well as support in accessing education, with housing issues, mental health support and legal advice. Their views kick-started thinking about developing our Hubs, so that the draw of sport and youth activities could safely and effectively link young people with expert services, at the earliest opportunity, providing wrap-around support.

Our Hubs are safe, welcoming spaces with social integration at their heart. Many of our partners and volunteers are from the local community.

“I have taken my two friends there already. If anybody has any issue or problems or they want to play games, I take all the people there. If they want help I take them to Young Roots. I take them because when I was come, I didn’t know about solicitors and my social worker was not good with me. I had a lot of problems, then when I find Young Roots they opened my eyes, they sort out all of my problems, I was so happy. There are lots of other people who need help so I take them to Young Roots.”
