One-to-one support

Young Roots launched its Casework service in 2016, offering bespoke one-to-one support and advocacy to young people, aged 11-25, to resolve pressing and complex needs. There is significant and increasing demand for this service. Our Caseworkers meet young people at our offices, in the community and offer drop-in sessions at our Advice & Support Hubs.

How does our Casework Service support?

Our Caseworkers support young people to navigate multiple and complex challenges including the asylum system, age assessments, homelessness, destitution, mental health and education, enabling them to access their full statutory rights and entitlements.

Our Casework service is available to young people aged 11-25 who reside locally or within the surrounding areas of Croydon, Brent and King’s Cross at the point of referral.

The level of one-to-one support provided is dependent on a young person’s needs, but typically consists of access to social services support, health care, housing, education, and high-quality legal advice.

We provide practical and emotional support to young people navigating age assessments, appeals, destitution and detention.

We have an asset-based approach, and work within a youth participation framework, encouraging young people to make their own decisions and to advocate for themselves where possible.

“Young Roots helped me a lot with an issue with my foster carer. They helped me find my brother, they helped me a lot… When I first came, my mental health was not good, but now it’s good. I was in Jungle for 1 year, I hadn’t seen my family. Now I’ve seen my family I can sleep much better. All the things, they done it for me. I understand my situation better now. Everything is good. They never said to me no, we can’t do this.”
