Our team in King’s Cross
Jane (she/her) joined Young Roots in December 2023 as Youth Welfare Manager. In this role, she manages the Youth Welfare project, supporting young people aged 18-25 who are seeking asylum in contingency accommodation. Jane collaborates with teams across King’s Cross, Croydon and Brent to ensure young people in hotels receive comprehensive casework support, access to legal and therapeutic services, and opportunities to build connections and engage in meaningful activities.
Before joining Young Roots, Jane was a Senior Practitioner at the National Counter Trafficking Centre where she advocated for protection and support for children who had experienced trafficking and exploitation. She also delivered training on safeguarding and trafficking to professionals. Prior to that, she worked at the Refugee Council, where she supported unaccompanied refugee children who were age disputed.
Before moving to London, Jane spent several years in Australia, where she completed her studies and built the foundation of her career in the charity sector. Originally from Ireland, she has always been passionate about youth empowerment, volunteering as an ESOL teacher for young refugees and at a youth club supporting children from under-resourced communities.
Jane holds a BA in Psychology and Politics and has completed additional training in international social work, leadership, and coaching.
"I am proud to work for an organisation that truly puts young people at the heart of everything we do. Every young person deserves to live in safety, with dignity, and the opportunity to thrive. Too often, young refugees are met with hostility and barriers instead of the support they need to rebuild their lives. It is a privilege to stand alongside them, to listen to their stories, and to advocate for a future where they are seen, heard, and given the same opportunities as their peers. At Young Roots, we are not just offering support—we are fostering empowerment and resilience, amplifying voices, and working towards a fairer and more compassionate system."

Jibreel - Youth Welfare Caseworker
Jibreel joined Young Roots in December 2022 as a Youth Welfare Officer, and started as a Caseworker for the project in August 2023 . He provides 1-1 support to young people and ensures that they have access to crucial services such as healthcare and education, as well as other social and wellbeing activities.
Prior to joining Young Roots, Jibreel worked with homeless people as well as young people living in contingency accommodation and semi independent units. He has an academic background in International Conflict (MSc) and considers it a fundamental pillar in supporting young people who are at-risk, particularly those who have fled conflict stricken countries.
Jibreel was drawn to Young Roots because he feels the charity gives young people an opportunity to thrive and become the best version of themselves, which is something he has always been passionate about.
“I feel privileged to work for an organisation that not only leads by example, but also shows young people that we are on their side.”
